Teams from Cardiff schools took the honours in all four finals at the South Wales Secondary Schools tennis championships.

 

Over the last year, 125 secondary schools across South Wales competed against each other to reach the finals, played at David Lloyd Cardiff.

 

The winning teams go through to the next round, which involves playing against teams from South West England.

 

Results:

 

Year 8 Boys:

Winners – Whitchurch School, Cardiff;

Runners up – Basslaeg, Newport;

 

Year 8 Girls:

Winners – Cardiff High, Cardiff;

Runners up –  Stanwell School, Penarth;

 

Year 10 Boys:

 

Winners – St. John’s College, Cardiff;

Runners up – Bishopston School, Swansea;

 

Year 10 Girls:

 

Winners – Cardiff High, Cardiff;

Runners up –  Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, Monmouth;

 

“The standard of play and competitive nature at the finals was fantastic, and all involved represented themselves and their schools superbly,’ said Simon Clarke, Tennis Wales’ tennis development manager for South Wales.

 

“Tennis Wales aims to provide more support and opportunities at regional level for next year’s event but we’re encouraged by how many teenage boys and girls are playing tennis at their school.”
