A team of young Welsh tennis players will be showing off their skills at Wimbledon this weekend.
Each year two British regions are given the opportunity to play against each other during Wimbledon fortnight.
The 10U boys from Wales and Scotland will give a demonstration on the famous grass courts of London SW19 on Saturday morning (June 28).
The six players are from various parts of Wales, including Newport, Chepstow, Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff will be led by National Performance Manager Ellinore Lightbody (who competed at Wimbledon in 1983) and Performance coach Craig Evans (who competed in the junior event in 2002 which also starts on Saturday)
Shay Ryan (David Lloyd Cardiff), Hugo Russell (David Lloyd Cardiff), Jethro Vela Vega (Swansea Tennis Centre), Will Jenkins (Swansea Tennis Centre and Virgin Glamorgan), Kristian Harrison (Wrexham) and Hugo Coclin (Cardiff Metropolitan University Tennis Academy)
The demonstration is due to take place on Courts 5, 6 and 7, from 10.30 11.15 am on Saturday.
The trip will also allow the players to watch tennis pros practice, as well as get a behind-the-scenes look at Wimbledon.
“We jumped at the opportunity to spend the weekend in Wimbledon,” said Ellinore Lightbody, National Talent Performance Manager for Tennis Wales. “All the boys have aspirations to complete in the tournament and hope to gain valuable experience at grass court tennis. This is a fantastic opportunity created by the All England LTC and LTA/Tennis Wales.
