Odyssey originated in New York and between 1977-1981 there were a succession of original hits such as Native New Yorker, Going Back to My Roots, Use It Up and Wear It Out, If You’re Lookin’ for a Way Out, It Will Be Alright, Inside Out, Hang Together and Magic Touch. The renowned anthems plus fresh fare unite soul, pop, dance, jazz, funk and other rhythms in an old school meets new school meets old school beat bonanza.
Odtssey are now based in the UK and they are fronted by Steven Collazo (who is the son and nephew of original members Lillian and Louise Lopez-who sadly passed away in 2012 and 2015 respectively). Since 2013 Steven has been joined by the experienced vocal talents of Jerdene Wilson and Romina Johnson who has worked with Artful Dodger.
Odyssey have been covered by a range of diverse acts from Tindersticks, Electribe 101 through to Phyllis Hyman and Esther Phillips. However, a Welsh date will offer an array of career highlights. Odyssey with DJ support from YamWho? are at Taff’s Well Ex-Service and Social Club on Saturday, August 6, 7.30pm. Tickets are £22.50 plus the £2.00 booking fee.
