Congratulations to Rhys Jones of Oak Street as he reached the final of the 100m (for athletes with cerebral palsy and upper body restrictions) in the Rio Paralympics. Rhys finished sixth in a strong field as the winner Charl de Toit broke the world record in the heats Rhys achieved a personal best of 11.7 seconds and he is now aiming for more success in the 2020 Tokyo games. In preparation for his next challenge Rhys has been training at UWIC with former Great Britain sprinter Christian Malcolm. His meticulous industry has paid dividends as Rhys also registered a bronze medal in the London Anniversary Games. Rhys has made his family, friends and all at St. Thomas’ Church, Clydach Vale and the Charity Shop, Penygraig. Rhys has also been a credit to the Rhondda and Wales. Well done Rhys!.
