The set begins with a performance from two English singing stars, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, with their rendition of ‘Somewhere’, the classic Leonard Bernstein / Stephen Sondheim penned song from West Side Story. Michael Ball & Alfie Boe’s recent album ‘Together’ was the breakthrough success of Christmas 2016, hitting No. 1 in the UK Chart.
Kicking off CD2 is Don’t Cry for Me Argentina: the most famous song of all musicals? Originally sung by Julie Covington, the Andrew Lloyd Webber / Tim Rice penned song topped the charts in 7 countries including the UK in 1977. One of the most covered songs in theatre, the version on this album is sung by Sarah Brightman – but other artists have covered this classic song including Olivia Newton-John, the Carpenters, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Sinead O’Connor and Nicole Scherzinger… the Madonna 1997 dance version was a global hit, reaching No. 3 in the UK chart.
