THE FALL ’58 Golden Greats’ out on 30 November 2018
The expanded 3-CD follow up to the iconic out of print ‘50,000 Fall Fans Can’t be Wrong’ compilation features songs right up to the groups last album. Compiled and annotated by long time Fall aficionado Daryl Easlea this set has tunes from across all of the labels that the band appeared on.
The accompanying booklet is designed by long time Fall designer Becky Stewart and there is a track by track overview and the release is mastered by Andy Pearce.
The Fall formed in Manchester in 1976 and they became the consummate English post-punk group across several decades until the sad 2018 passing of their leader – the late, great Mark E. Smith.
Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group’s music underwent stylistic changes over the years – but, the sound was always characterised by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, underpinned by Smith’s distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics.
This compilation is ideal for anyone wanting to discover the weird and wonderful world of the Fall. “They are always different; they are always the same” was the quote from legendary DJ John Peel but without The Fall so many other careers would be bankrupt – such is the immense influence of Smith and his various charges.
Avoid this retrospective overview at your peril – and if you are new to The Fall – welcome to a wonderful and weird world where you will never ever be bored! This is the key to wanting more – of which there is plenty to treasure! As regards here – sample the goods:
