www.worldofwords.education has managed to bring in some special guests to Cwmclydach Primary School and today was another elite experience. International athlete and coach James Thie made us a visit and he was an exciting and entertaining guest. James had many tales of interrnational running both indoor and outdoor which has involved representing both Wales and Great Britain. James has also run for the New York City Club and his skills have taken him across the globe to compete in the Commonwealth Games and World Championships while also coaching at the recent Paris Olympics – as well as the previous Tokyo event.
James is a fan of the track in Tonypandy and he regularly trains at this well respected facility. James was a force behind the August Tonypandy Track event that united many top athletes in a stellar evening of competition.
James is also a lecturer at Cardiff Met and he is a sought after commentator. This is the man for all seasons and he is training for the 2024 New York Marathon but today he was in Cwmclydach and the children, staff and World of Words – WOW really enjoyed an enlightening encounter.
It is many thanks to James who also offered a n Olympic pin badge prize for the best question of the afternoon to one lucky student. However, the children were on fine form and there were many illuminating questions from a range of pupils. James was impressed and aims at a return in the future!👏
The children then attended their WOW class and did research on the cotoneaster berry and there was some fine research on this plant.
