Sainsbury’s Retailer supports Carers Week by holding hundreds of awareness sessions in stores nationwide. Sainsbury’s is one of the main sponsors and has over 20,000 colleagues with caring responsibilities across the UK.
The team at Sainsbury’s Pontypridd invited local carers’ groups into store last week as part of their support for Carers Week. Representatives from Parkinsons UK visited the store on 10th and 12th June to raise awareness of the support available to carers in Pontypridd.
Representatives from the Stroke Association also joined forces with Sainsbury’s Pontypridd to raise awareness on Friday 13th June which proved to be huge success for them. Paul, a representative from the stroke association said,
“My colleague, Steph, and I had a great day telling people about Stroke Association’s efforts to help Carers come to terms with the inevitable changes that stroke brings.
We gave out countless leaflets (including many aimed at preventing strokes), talked to 54 people at length about their risk of stroke or a Stroke Survivor they knew and, last but certainly not least, we raised an amazing total of £146.87!
Again, thank you ever so much for inviting us to help you celebrate Carers Week. Your generosity, and that of your customers, is very much appreciated.”
Heléna Herklots, Chief Executive of Carers UK, said: “Thank you to all those Sainsbury’s stores which were amongst hundreds of organisations across the country running Carers Week events to support the nations’ carers. Many people don’t realise that help may be available if they are caring for an older or disabled loved one and during Carers Week this year we were able to reach out to thousands of carers in the community to guide them to advice, information and support.”
