Everybody wants a puppy for Christmas, their so cute and adorable and are the best companions you could ask for! However, the excitement can often be short lived as the reality of how hard and how demanding it is to take care of an animal sets in. Many people abandon their new pets shortly after the Christmas period and of course many people abandon pets right throughout the year.

That’s where friends of the Animals RCT steps in. Friends of the Animals is a small independent rescue based in Wales and was started by Eileen Jones when her tagged and microchiped Yorkshire Terrier, Sophie, disappeared without trace on August 1st 2003.

Despite extensive searching, poster campaigns, leafleting, offering a reward etc., Sophie had gone.

Whilst searching for Sophie, Eileen became aware of the appalling plight of homeless and abandoned dogs and was determined to do something to help. The situation of puppy farmed dogs in Wales also made a huge impact on Eileen and thus Friends of the Animals RCT was born.

Eileen ran things mostly single handed for the first couple of years. The last two years has seen more committed and dedicated people come on board, people with the same beliefs and aims. This has enabled the group to help many more dogs and other animals.

Because so many people buy puppies without thinking it through, F.O.T.A RCT is now bombarded with helpless homeless puppies. Although everyone at F.O.T.A loves and adores the puppies there just isn’t enough room for them all and they desperately need loving and compassionate people to either foster or hopefully adopt the puppies/dogs that they take in, so that they can have loving homes to live and play in.

Let’s not forget that F.O.T.A could not run without the help and support of all the wonderful volunteers and more help would be much appreciated.
Friends of the Animals RCT volunteers each in turn bring ideas and skills to help in lots of ways. F.O.T.A RCT often need help with things such as:

  • Fundraising locally and online
  • Crafts, Sewing and Knitting,
  • Home checking, dog walking
  • Transporting of animals to vet appointments/ therapy sessions,
  • And many other tasks that can be done from your home.

I know I’d never want to be without my gorgeous little Yorkie puppy and I know those of you who have pets will feel just as passionate about helping F.O.T.A RCT, so if you can please put together a few little dog goodies and pass them on to the rescue.
A big Thank you from F.O.T.A RCT and myself in advance!
